VolunteerMatch

VolunteerMatch is a service that hooks you up with volunteers. Duh. This would be useful if we'd want to start a movement - something I do not want to avoid. So I opened an account as a non-profit. I called it ActionActivist. I thought Meant2Move was a good one too, playing off the double meaning in movement and the fact that we, as humans, are designed to move. Unfortunately, half way into the registration process I was asked for an EIN (Employer Identification Number). My fears that my non-profit was not registered with the government became true. Gotta cross that bridge first. Another avenue to pursue is to operate under a fiscal agent or umbrella organization that already has an EIN. Any takers?

  1. Dai,

Robert here from VolunteerMatch. This came up on my radar.

    1. Great cause! Make it happen.

    2. It's true we have a policy in place in order to protect volunteers and also because we really do try to provide hands on support for all members, so our resources have to be limited to valid groups and not everyone with a cause. Hope you understand.

    3. I definitely encourage you to find an existing organization -- whether they are a current VolunteerMatch member or not -- to partner with.

    4. Don't forget that with 58,000 participating organizations, VolunteerMatch.org is a great place to search for active organization who can support what you're doing. Try keyword "bicycle".

    Take care,

    Robert
